When I first started working with WordPress I was going crazy because I could not see my Categories. Who would have known that you do not see them until two things happen:
You have to have a post in the Category first
You have to place the Categories on the sidebar with a Widget which you can find under Appearance.
Now all we have to figure out is the difference between a Widget, a Plugin, and a Menu item.
